You're worth celebrating.
Finally. A birthday celebration planned especially for you.
You've planned your own birthday more than once. The restaurant. The friends. All the details. You're very good at it, but couldn’t someone else take over for once?
At Tea for Ten, you receive.
Ten small gifts, made by hand, made with heart. A recipe someone loves enough to write out for you. A poem in someone's own handwriting. A watercolor. A pressed flower. Thoughtful in a way that store-bought things rarely are. A little unexpected. Nothing generic about any of it.
You'll leave holding ten small pieces of ten different women.
Made before they knew you.
Given freely once they did.
Ten of us. A corner table at Sincerely Tea House in Davidson. The evening begins by arranging our gifts on a display table, then making our way to the tea wall to choose our blend. The team there knows every one of them intimately, and there's a wonderful selection of decaf.
Once we've chosen our seats, the individual teapots arrive. Steam rising. And the honey containers. Wait until you see them. I want one for myself.
The stories begin to flow. Teacup after teacup is sipped. The gifts are shared with more laughter than you expected, and all too soon, the evening comes to a close.
A word about the gift.
You’ll bring one small handmade gift for each woman in the room. A small, good thing from your heart, made with love. Think two hours or less, minimal cost, something from a simple pleasure that's yours.
A cookie with your favorite recipe on the card. A poem you love, written or printed. A small watercolor. Something pressed from your garden. A tea blend you've put together. Whatever makes you think, that's very me.
That thing you're already thinking of? I bet it's wonderful. Bring it.
There's no right answer and no wrong one. Quirkiness and individuality aren't just welcome here, they're the point. Most of the other women arriving probably have similar moment of "is this the right thing?" Let's trust it is.
The gift isn't a craft project. It's an act of showing up. When you bring something small and true to who you are, you give the women in that room a window into you. And they do the same. That's how women find their people.
Real friendship is built on giving and receiving. Both. Most of us are practiced at one. Tea for Ten asks for both, by design.
If you're like me, there might be a moment of slight terror reading this. Good. That feeling is not a reason to say no. If you'll lean into it, realize that's a signpost pointing to exactly who this evening is for.
Here's something I learned years ago: Excitement and anxiety feel exactly the same in our bodies. The only difference between them is the expected outcome.
So, think about the morning of something you looked forward to for a long time. A trip. A first day. Something that was finally, finally here. There can be a slight catch, a raised heartbeat. And amazingly these come from the same place where dread lives.
The difference is what you're walking toward.
So the “I'm not so sure I can do this,” it might not be dread. It might just be excitement.
The expected outcome here: a corner table. Women who chose to be there, just like you. Gifts made with real thought, received with real warmth. Tea arriving in individual pots. Stories of someone's worst birthday. And someone else's best. Laughter that comes out of nowhere. An evening you're glad you said yes to.
Call it excitement. Take that deep breath. See yourself as the kind of woman who says yes to slightly scary things.
The woman who comes to Tea for Ten is a woman who wants more.
Who is expanding into her own life.
Who is saying yes.
To herself, to new people, to the kind of connection that actually lasts.
